St. John’s, NL (April 23, 2020) – PC Opposition Leader Ches Crosbie said he is surprised the province’s OilCo corporation has quietly ended its contract with a Scotland-based oil consultant, with close Liberal ties, whose hire the government was vigorously defending just weeks ago.
“Under the cover of a pandemic, the government has ditched a consultant whose work they told us they really needed. Their decision to terminate the contract calls into question whether the contract was ever needed.”
The consultant in question was a former provincial government employee who left his post to base himself in Scotland. The consultant was paid $337,000, almost twice as much as his salary as an employee. Despite an allowance for housing in St. John’s of $3,000 a month, the consultant resided in Aberdeen, Scotland.
