St. John’s, NL (April 24, 2020) – Today, Loyola O’Driscoll, PC MHA for Ferryland, called upon the Minister of Transportation and Works to immediately begin a rehabilitation of the Witless Bay Line, Route 10.
“Since being elected, my office has been inundated with complaints and concerns over the continuing deterioration of Witless Bay Line. There are numerous stretches of road with massive and deep potholes and entire sections where the asphalt is totally gone, exposing the foundation underneath,” noted O’Driscoll.
“I have personally seen vehicles swerve over into oncoming traffic in order to avoid sudden obstacles in the road. This is a tragedy waiting to unfold.”
Witless Bay Line is a key transportation link for workers traveling to various locations on the Avalon including the Vale Plant in Long Harbour, the West White Rose project in Argentia, in addition to busy commercial traffic to a number of fish plants in the area. Furthermore, for tourists, it is a primary route to the Colony of Avalon in Ferryland, various boat tours along the coast and the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Mistake Point.
“Witless Bay Line made the 2019 list of Ten Worst Roads in Atlantic Canada published by CAA. This is a disgrace and completely unacceptable to me and the residents of my District,” added O’Driscoll. https://www.atlantic.caa.ca/public-advocacy/worstroads.html
