St. John’s, NL (July 2, 2020) – PC Land Resources Critic and MHA for Exploits, Pleaman Forsey, is concerned about the lengthy delays in Crown lands application processing. Faster approvals would stimulate the economy and ease frustrations felt by individuals across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Forsey says, “Approval of Crown lands applications is a slow and lengthy process. We are getting calls from people across the province who feel that two to five years is an unreasonable delay for approvals. The situation has been extremely frustrating for many across our province.”

By waiting years for the government to assess their applications, people are unable to proceed with projects that could stimulate economic development in our province. Shortening the processing time would drive economic growth and create employment.

Forsey wants to see the process streamlined and more efficient. “The backlog isn’t good enough. If this government is serious about opening up the economy, then it is high time for the minister to address the lengthy delays in Crown lands applications processing which is holding back economic growth in our province,” says Forsey.
