St. John’s, NL (July 6, 2020) –Craig Pardy, PC Opposition critic for Education and Early Childhood Development and the MHA for Bonavista says he was “astounded” by the lack of detail in the Liberal governments so-called “Re-entry Plan” for the Newfoundland and Labrador school system.

“Quite frankly, I am astounded by the lack of detail in this re-opening plan as well as the lack of supports for our educators. I spent the majority of my career in education as a principal and I know how this announcement would make me feel if I was still in that role – the provincial government simply doesn’t understand the needs of both our education system and of our children,” says Pardy.

The provincial government’s “Re-entry Plan” makes no mention of additional staffing resources, busing resources, or the problem with maintaining the same classroom size.

“We’ve heard from government on countless occasions about the need for social distancing. This so-called ‘plan’ maintains the same number of children on our school busses and in the classroom while leaving teachers to figure it out. Parents, students, teachers, and staff should be shocked and disappointed by today’s announcement,” says Pardy.
