St. John’s, NL (July 16, 2020) – Craig Pardy, MHA for Bonavista, and David Brazil, MHA for Conception Bay East – Bell island and critic for Health and Community Services, are calling for a comprehensive review of long term care in the province.

Pardy says, “Newfoundland and Labrador has been incredibly fortunate that we didn’t have a similar experience as other provinces in the long term care system. However, the pandemic has also put an incredible amount of stress on this system, the staff that support it, the residents, and their families. I’ve spoken with staff at long term care facilities like the Golden Heights Manor in my district and they have been pleading for change.”

One of the critical health policy proposals of the PC Official Opposition during the last general election was a comprehensive review of the long term care system in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Brazil says, “There has been systemic issues in the long term care system for years and we have committed to a comprehensive review when we form government. Unfortunately, I don’t believe that this review can wait until the next election to get started. The pandemic has shone a light on some of the vulnerabilities in long term care and government should take the reasonable and prudent step to order a review – our loved ones deserve no less.”
