St. John’s, NL (July 22, 2020) – PC Opposition MHA for the District of Harbour Main, Helen Conway Ottenheimer, is raising concern regarding the lack of government support for the oil
and gas industry in the province.

“Governments at both levels, federal and provincial, are desperately failing to give hope to the thousands of oil and gas workers and to those who work in spin-off industries, many of whom
live in the communities of the District of Harbour Main. The District of Harbour Main is filled with hardworking, educated, and experienced individuals who have worked in our offshore.
Over the last several months, I have heard from many of these individuals. They are worried about their jobs and their future; many have already received lay-offs and are now trying to
provide for their families. The torment and incredible stress that individuals are facing is unimaginable,” said Conway Ottenheimer.

“The Liberal Federal and Provincial Governments have been ineffective in supporting our important offshore industry. A failure to support the offshore is a direct failure to support workers in my district. I cannot sit idly by. Time is running out for many families. I will continue to fight for my district. Our residents depend on a strong oil and gas sector which requires intervention and action now,” said Conway Ottenheimer.
