Clarenville, NL (July 23, 2020) – PC Opposition MHA for the District of Terra Nova, Lloyd Parrott, is raising concern over a public dispute between government and a local personal care home operator. The operators said that they suspended visitation after consulting with both a local physician and Central Health. However, public health officials have recommended a different course of action.
Newfoundland and Labrador is one of the few jurisdictions in Canada that has been spared a COVID-19 outbreak in a care home, a trend that Parrott wants to see continue.
“Some of our most vulnerable Newfoundlanders and Labradorians live in homes just like this one. The mixed messages between Central Health and Public Health is frustrating for residents, families, staff, and the operators. We simply cannot afford this confusion from our government after seeing what has happened in other provinces,” says Parrott.
The conflicting advice from government health entities has raised questions.
Parrott asks, “How often are these mixed messages going out to families and our care providers? Where is the information disconnect between Public Health and the health authorities? What needs to change to ensure that this does not happen again?”
