St. John's, NL (July 27, 2020) – PC Opposition Leader Ches Crosbie and Finance Critic Tony Wakeham said ‎the fiscal update has provided the people of Newfoundland and Labrador the clearest picture yet that this Liberal government is in over its head. The debt and deficit numbers hide the true dimension of the human tragedy of increased unemployment and people forced to leave the province to look for work.

Crosbie said, "The Liberals have spent five years managing decline. Now we're seeing projections that another 11,000 jobs will be lost and another 4,000 people will be forced to leave the province. ‎People are worried about their jobs and how they will provide for their families. The impact in our communities is devastating, and much of it could have been avoided with proper leadership."

Wakeham said, "The fiscal update emphasizes the need for overdue and urgent support for our oil industry and getting people back to work. We must figure out a path forward for Terra Nova, West White Rose, Bay du Nord and Hibernia, and work on growing and accelerating exploration. The Liberals have failed miserably at getting our province's fair share from Ottawa.

Crosbie and Wakeham welcome the acknowledgement of Liberal leadership candidate John Abbott in a press release yesterday, that playing on friendly favours from Ottawa has failed and a fighting approach is needed to get a fair deal from Ottawa.
