St. John's, NL (August 27th, 2020) – Ches Crosbie, PC Official Opposition Leader and MHA for Windsor Lake, lashed out at the Liberal Government for the chaos and upheaval that has been caused in the school system.
Crosbie noted that his office has heard from bus contractors who have waited for the phone to ring all summer. They have solutions in mind including early school opening and closing times, staggered start times, and double or even triples runs, yet the operators have not been engaged.
“What has the government been doing for the last 6 months? Minister Osborne has had to resort to personally calling around town looking for buses. If the situation facing families was not so serious, this would be laughable,” says Crosbie.
PC Opposition critic Craig Pardy has been working diligently to bring busing to the forefront as the entire caucus has been inundated with phone calls and messages from concerned parents and educators.
Crosbie says, “6,200 children have been thrown off of their school bus. Parents still have no information on if their child will have a seat and we are less than two weeks from the start of school. It is time to convene an urgent meeting of school bus contractors, the school district, and Government. We are long past the time for action.”
