For Immediate Release
St. John's, NL (August 28th, 2020) – With students returning to school, Ches Crosbie, PC Official Opposition Leader and MHA for Windsor Lake, is calling on the Liberal government to test individuals returning from abroad, as well as rotational workers.
Crosbie says, "With the announcement of a new foreign travel related case of COVID-19 in our province it is critical for the Liberal government to start point of entry testing to catch imported cases and reduce risk of introduction of infection to schools by school-age family members of travelers."
The call comes on the heels of the PC Official Opposition voicing the pleas of returning rotational workers for testing to ease the endless cycle of self-isolation resulting from their work schedules. The Liberal Government has stated that it will soon respond to the call by the PC Opposition.
"A large number of rotational workers have children in the education system and we need to ensure added protection for both student and staff family members in these households, and for the wider education system. The PC Official Opposition has advocated for point of entry testing for months and with the school reopening days away, the Liberal Government needs to take immediate action," says Crosbie.
