St. John's, NL (August 31, 2020) – PC Opposition Finance Critic and MHA for the District of Stephenville – Port au Port, Tony Wakeham, is requesting that the rent relief program be extended and modified to ensure that small businesses can get the support they need.
“The Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA) program will end today. This program has failed small businesses within this province; it did not respond to their needs. I call on the government to extend the program and make changes so that tenants can apply directly for the funds they need to pay their rent,” said Wakeham.
Wakeham continued to express his support for business within our province.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. The Liberal Government has funds available in the rent relief program which they can direct towards helping these small businesses. A failure to do so is a failure to support hardworking Newfoundlanders and Labradorians,” said Wakeham.
