St. John's, NL (September 4, 2020) – Pleaman Forsey, PC MHA for Exploits, is raising concern on behalf of parents and students regarding the ongoing situation with school busing in his district for the upcoming year.
There are 9 schools in the district of Exploits and the MHA for the area has been inundated with phone calls on this issue.
“I have heard of courtesy bus stops in communities being cancelled, forcing students to find a way to school. In one community they have approximately 80 students enrolled in the local school with 2 school buses. The province is allowed 46 students on each bus, however, some still have to find their own transportation. This is purely unacceptable,” says Forsey.
Courtesy stops are not the only issue that parents in the region are concerned with.
“Another example I have encountered is a student which happens to live 3 KM from school without transportation. Doubling up a school bus run or earlier openings for schools so parents could drop their children off could alleviate this issue. Government is causing anxiety for students and parents. It’s simply a nightmare,” says Forsey.
