St. John's, NL (November 30, 2020) – PC Leader and MHA for Windsor Lake, Ches Crosbie, is speaking out in advance of today’s federal economic statement. Crosbie is concerned that Newfoundland and Labradors economic well-being will be ignored and that the Liberals will fail to provide desperately needed support for our offshore industry.

“Recently, we have heard the troubling news that 30 more individuals who work in our oil and gas sector have lost their jobs. The Terra Nova FPSO continues to sit idle, construction at West White Rose has stopped, and there are two exploration rigs tied up in Bull Arm. Simply put, our oil and gas industry is suffering while workers are sitting home wanting to go back to work. To date, the provincial Liberals have failed to use the $320 million to get people back to work,” outlined Crosbie.

“I believe that $320 million is not enough to help workers in this province. I will be watching today’s federal economic statement and looking for increased help for our industry. We need the federal government to help move West White Rose forward, to help get the Terra Nova back in service, and to stimulate exploration,” said Crosbie.

Crosbie indicated that a lack of commitment from the federal government would be a reflection on Premier Furey’s leadership.

“If the federal government fails to provide additional support for our industry, it will be a failure of Premier Furey to stand up for our province and our workers. I will continue to fight for our province until every worker has a job,” proclaimed Crosbie.
