St. John's, NL (December 4, 2020) – PC Leader and MHA for Windsor Lake, Ches Crosbie, is highlighting his plan to ensure accountability and fiscal responsibility at Nalcor.
“Yesterday, Minister Parsons said he was ‘pissed off’ with the bonuses paid to Nalcor’s executive staff. However, his Liberal Cabinet could have canceled these bonuses years ago. Nalcor is a crown corporation which reports to the government. If the Liberals were sincerely concerned about these bonus payouts, they could have put a stop to them as soon as they were elected in 2015. Simply put, the Liberals have allowed bonuses to be collected, they have allowed this practice to continue,” said Crosbie.
The total paid out through bonuses in 2019 was $2.9 million dollars. Crosbie indicated that this money could have been better used to directly support residents of the province.
“We have residents of this province who are in great need. I recall that in budget 2016, the Liberals cut the adult dental program for a savings of $3 million. I can’t help but think that the money paid out in bonuses could be put to better use, to fix the wrongs of budget 2016, and to help low income adults and seniors access the dental care they urgently deserve,” said Crosbie.
Crosbie continued to outline how he would ensure fiscal oversight and accountability at Nalcor.
“This province needs a Premier who is going to take a stand and do the right thing. If I was Premier, I would cancel all executive bonuses at Nalcor immediately upon being elected. Furthermore, I would terminate any executives who are still employed and responsible for cost overruns and the gross mismanagement of the Muskrat Falls project,” said Crosbie.
“The people of this province can be assured that if Premier, I would hold Nalcor accountable for every dollar they spend,” proclaimed Crosbie.
