St. John's, NL (January 6, 2021) – PC Leader Ches Crosbie, on behalf of the entire Official Opposition Office is extending congratulations to St. John’s-born Alex Newhook and Bay Roberts-born Dawson Mercer for an inspiring silver-medal performance at the 2021 World Junior Hockey Championship with Team Canada.
Newhook and Mercer have proven themselves stellar athletes and have become important ambassadors for Newfoundland and Labrador, said Crosbie.
“Alex Newhook and Dawson Mercer were integral parts of Team Canada’s hard fought silver medal from Game One to the final game against the United States. Bravo to you both,” said Crosbie.
Chris Tibbs, Shadow Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, and Recreation and MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor – Buchans, says the next generation of hockey players in Newfoundland and Labrador have two new heroes to look up to.
“Dawson Mercer and Alex Newhook’s accomplishments throughout the 2021 World Juniors will inspire the next generation of hockey players in Newfoundland and Labrador, and shows the importance of supporting sport and recreation throughout the province,” said Tibbs.
