St. John's, NL (January 11, 2021) – Pleaman Forsey, MHA for Exploits, is calling on the Liberal government to follow through on their election promise to keep 24-hour emergency services at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre in Botwood.
In 2016, the Liberal government stripped the 24-hour emergency services from the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre in Botwood. In the 2019 election, former Premier Ball promised to reinstate the service in the fall of 2020. That Premier is now gone and so is his promise.
“We are left with a commitment from the Liberal Minister of Health to review the service after the Long Term Care Facility was finished in Botwood,” said Forsey.
“That’s not good enough.”
In an email received from Central Health, Forsey was told that Central Health should be taking possession of the Long Term Care Facility in mid-December with occupancy expected by the end of January 2021.
“Now we are into January 2021 and I am calling on the Government to reinstate the 24 hour emergency services at the DHTHCC immediately with a new winter season already upon us. This creates added stress to the residents of the Exploits District. Is this part of Moya Greene’s plan to cut services to rural Newfoundland and Labrador?” said Forsey.
