St. John's, NL (January 11, 2021) – Tony Wakeham, MHA for Stephenville-Port au Port, says the executive director of the Francophone school board working from Ontario is just the latest example of the Liberal government outsourcing responsibilities that need to be handled by people on the ground.
On Monday, the CBC reported Kim Christianson, executive director of the Conseil Scoilaire Francophone has been working from Ontario since March and has no plans to return to the island to continue her duties.
“I take no issue with Christianson’s expertise in her role, but it’s astonishing that an entire school board is being run from Ontario when there are issues on the ground that need attention,” said Wakeham.
Wakeham pointed to the fact that Central Health’s CEO is currently working from New Brunswick as another example of issues on the ground being managed from away.
“The reality is that no manager can do their best work while hundreds of miles away from the issues on the ground. The Liberals also thought it was a good idea to have Gordon Macintosh support our oil and gas industry while living in Scotland. There’s a pattern here of allowing essential matters to be managed from miles away that I find troubling,” said Wakeham.
Wakeham called on Education Minister Tom Osborne to do his job and make sure the matters at home are being handled by people close to the issues, not by outsourcing responsibilities.
