St. John’s, NL (January 23, 2025) – Paul Dinn, PC Opposition Shadow Minister for Education and MHA for Topsail-Paradise today spoke out again about the failure of the Furey Liberals to provide a safe and supportive K-12 education system.
After reviewing the NLTA 2025 Pre-Budget Submission, Dinn noted the submission is yet another call to action for the Liberals to address issues in the classroom. The NLTA submission painstakingly highlights the ongoing failures of the provinces K-12 system which the NLTA has been speaking out about publicly for years.
Dinn noted “There has been report upon report which continue to pile up without substantial action. We have been told not to worry because the Education Accord will solve many issues. Children cannot afford to wait, many of these issues should have been addressed long ago.”
The NLTA Pre-Budget Submission outlines familiar concerns such as large class sizes, lack of supports and resources, increased violence, and greater complexities in the classrooms.
“How many more studies, submissions, and reports are needed before the Liberals will take action? After almost a decade of Liberal government, classrooms are still overcrowded without a lack of school-based supports and resources for children with complex needs and mental health challenges. Violence is on the rise and children are falling further and further behind,” added Dinn.
Dinn pointed out, “The NLTA submission ends with ‘The time to act is now’ and the Premier’s Task Force on Educational Outcomes; Now is the Time which was released eight years ago ends with ‘Now is the time to improve educational outcomes…’ It is truly remarkable that today’s children will graduate before the Furey Liberals take action to address some of these issues. It is a legacy of failure. Children and youth deserve better.”
