Liberals Continue to Rush Deal With Quebec “They’re Allergic to Transparency”: Wakeham
St. John’s, NL (August 26, 2025) – Today, Quebec Premier Francois Legault is in St. John’s for a closed-door meeting with John Hogan.
“We all know by now that the Quebec Premier does not come to Newfoundland and Labrador just for social reasons,” said Tony Wakeham, Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party and MHA for Stephenville–Port au Port. “Francois Legault is coming to rush the deal he signed with the Liberals. And, just like before, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians can expect to be kept in the dark about what was discussed.”
“Whether it’s voting for secret cash bonuses, questionable business deals for Liberal-connected companies or giving Quebec another 50 years of cheap access to our power, this Liberal government loves making decisions behind closed doors,” said Wakeham. “They seem to be allergic to transparency.”
Wakeham underscored that a PC government under his leadership is committed to developing our resources properly, with transparency, and in a way that guarantees that our province will actually benefit.
“The people of Newfoundland and Labrador deserve to see Churchill Falls and Gull Island developed, and they deserve to be the primary beneficiaries of that development,” concluded Wakeham. “Our province cannot afford to suffer through another bad deal with Quebec.”
