St. John’s, NL (June 4, 2025) – Joedy Wall, PC Shadow Minister for Housing and MHA for Cape St. Francis, is criticizing the Liberal government for failing to address the province’s ongoing housing crisis.

“With at least three hotels currently being used to house individuals experiencing homelessness in our province, it’s clear that the Liberals lack a comprehensive and sustainable housing strategy that is desperately needed,” said Wall.

Wall was responding to recent media reports that revealed a Corner Brook hotel is now being used to provide accommodations to individuals in the area who have no place to live.

"Putting someone in a $200-a-night hotel room is not a housing solution," added Wall. "It’s not helping people find long-term, affordable housing. It’s not addressing the root causes of homelessness. And it’s certainly not a good use of taxpayer dollars."

Wall said Newfoundland and Labrador needs a provincial housing strategy that identifies and addresses the root causes of homelessness, creates more affordable and appropriate housing options, and helps individuals and families find and maintain long-term homes.

"Safe, secure and affordable housing is a basic human right," said Wall. "It’s time for real leadership on this important issue. And that includes putting people first and investing in meaningful, long-term solutions – not short-term fixes, which seem to be a trademark of this Liberal government.”
