McKenna urges Government to commit to financial relief for Musgrave Harbour residents
St. John’s, NL (July 25, 2025) – Jim McKenna, Progressive Conservative Shadow Minister for Transportation and MHA for Fogo Island – Cape Freels, calls for the Liberal Government to commit to financial relief for Musgrave Harbour residents.
Following the lifting of the evacuation order for the Town of Musgrave Harbour, Jim McKenna is urging the Provincial Government to commit to providing financial relief for the residents who have been displaced from their homes.
“People in Musgrave Harbour have endured a tremendous amount during this crisis. Having to evacuate their homes and face uncertainty is a heavy burden to carry. It is time for the government to step up and offer the support that our communities truly need,” McKenna stated. “Last year, the government provided much-needed assistance to residents in Labrador affected by wildfires. We need to see the same commitment for the people of Musgrave Harbour.”
As the community begins to recover, it is vital that the government prioritizes financial relief for those impacted. McKenna emphasizes that the residents deserve the same level of support that was extended previously, highlighting the necessity for consistent and equitable responses to disasters, regardless of geography.
“Let’s hope the Liberals can show the same eagerness to help the people of Musgrave Harbour as they did for their own secret bonuses,” McKenna added.
The PC Caucus is asking the government to publicly commit to financial assistance for Musgrave Harbour residents, ensuring that no family is left behind during the recovery process.
