MUN Board of Regents Chair Must Be Removed: Dinn
For Immediate Release
(August 1, 2024, St. John’s, NL) – Paul Dinn, PC Shadow Minister for Education (MHA, Topsail – Paradise), is calling for the removal of the current Chair of the Board of Regents.
This call comes after media reports confirmed that the Chair of the Board of Regents breached Ms. Becky Winsor's privacy by forwarding a pro-Palestinian email she had sent him to her father. The email stated, "I am telling parents that I know just what their kids are doing, they need to grow up."
"Members of the board are expected to act with integrity, respect, and in a manner of trust and confidentiality. The action taken is both insulting and condescending to Ms. Winsor and her father, and contrary to board code of conduct." added Dinn. "It demonstrates a severe lack of judgment and professionalism. Unfortunately, MUN continues to make headlines for all the wrong reasons, and the Chair of the Board of Regents must be held accountable," said Dinn.
Dinn also pointed out that the current Chair of the Board of Regents is leading a new Presidential Search Committee, which has recently spent $75,000 on another private executive search firm.
"We all witnessed the international debacle resulting from the previous search process. If we follow the same procedure again, why should we expect different results?" Dinn questioned.
He also urged Minister of Education Krista Lynn Howell to address the situation and take decisive action.
"The people of the province are still waiting for MUN to correct their mistake and reinstate the Ode to Newfoundland. Additionally, a scathing Auditor General's report highlighted issues with financial spending. The Furey Liberals must stop sitting on the sidelines and take action to begin restoring confidence in MUN's leadership."
