No Crews, No Construction, Just Photo-Ops: Petten

For Immediate Release

(June 14, 2024 St. John’s, N.L.) – PC Shadow Minister for Infrastructure Barry Petten (MHA, Conception Bay South) is calling on the Furey Liberals to update the current government infrastructure file in the wake of yet another Furey Liberal infrastructure announcement.

Today, the Furey Liberals announced a new Downtown Health and Well-Being Centre on the site of the former Grace Hospital. Like most Furey Liberal announcements, Petten noted that the latest Liberal photo-op has no timeline nor budget.

"The Furey Liberals have hundreds of millions of dollars of work on the books, which they can't seem to get moving," said Petten. "There are no construction sites. No crews are working.  Despite all the smiles and pictures at sod turnings, the reality is that none of these projects are under construction."

Petten noted that the Furey Liberals have made many significant infrastructure announcements, including new schools in Paradise and Kenmount Terrace, a new St. Clare's Hospital, the next phase of the Team Gushue Highway, twining of the Trans-Canada Highway, and a replacement for His Majesty's Penitentiary. All of which have yet to begin construction.

"I am not aware of any substantial progress on these projects. Once again, we see photo opportunities and vague re-announcements without any follow-up. The Furey Liberals should focus on completing the projects they have already announced before making more announcements merely for photo-ops."
