Parrott Reacts to Bull Arm MOU
St. John’s, NL (July 23, 2025) – Lloyd Parrott, Shadow Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology and MHA for Terra Nova, is calling out the Liberals for signing a deal with a Liberal-connected group to take over Bull Arm—without any public consultation and just weeks before a provincial election.
The group includes individuals who, until very recently, were political staffers in the provincial Liberal government.
“This deal was rushed through to benefit Liberal insiders before the people have their say at the ballot box,” said Parrott. “It’s unacceptable that the Liberals would quietly hand over control of one of our province’s most strategic industrial assets without true public consultation.”
Recently, Parrott had called for Bull Arm to play a central role in a new era of industrial development, including a bold push to secure submarine construction for Newfoundland and Labrador. Today’s announcement directly undermines that vision.
“Bull Arm should be used for maximum benefit and maximum employment of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians—not quietly handed off to a group with deep Liberal ties in a desperate, pre-election move,” said Parrott. “This site has the infrastructure and potential to support thousands of high-value jobs. I worry that the Liberals chose a politically convenient decision over a long-term economic development strategy.”
Parrott is demanding full transparency on the terms of the deal, including how the group was selected, what consultation—if any—was done with local communities or industry, and what guarantees exist for local job creation.
“Last week, the Liberals were exposed for voting to give Cabinet Ministers secret bonuses of up to $48,000. Trust in the Liberals is at an all-time low. If there is nothing to hide, then the government should be willing to show the public why this deal makes sense.”
“Newfoundlanders and Labradorians deserve a government that works for them—not one that works for its friends behind closed doors,” concluded Parrott.
