Wakeham Accepts Endorsement of TradesNL
(Mount Pearl, NL) - Tony Wakeham, Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador, today welcomed the endorsement of TradesNL, which represents 14 building trades unions and thousands of skilled trades workers across the province.
“On behalf of all 40 PC candidates, I want to thank TradesNL and its members for this important show of support,” said Wakeham. “I want every tradesperson to know that we will work just as hard to keep your trust as we did to earn it.”
Wakeham pledged that, under a PC government, unionized workers would always have a seat at the table. He outlined a jobs-focused vision for Newfoundland and Labrador, highlighting opportunities in construction, resource development, and defence spending.
“I reject the idea that our days of building big things are behind us,” Wakeham said. “We have the facilities, the skills, and the workforce right here in Newfoundland and Labrador. What we need is a government prepared to step up, dream big, and start building again.”
As part of his commitments to trades workers, Wakeham promised to fight for Newfoundland and Labrador’s fair share of federal defence spending and to ensure that Bay du Nord construction takes place in the province.
He also reaffirmed his earlier commitment that a PC government would require local community benefits agreements on all natural resource and major public infrastructure projects, mandating that at least 10 percent of the workforce be apprentices.
“A PC government, under my leadership, together with the support of tradespeople, will restore prosperity to Newfoundland and Labrador,” Wakeham said. “We will support better healthcare, lower taxes, and safer communities for everyone.”
