St. John's, N.L. (October 10, 2024)

Tony Wakeham, Leader of the PC Party and Official Opposition, announced key changes to the PC Shadow Cabinet today as the Progressive Conservative Caucus prepares for the reconvening of the House of Assembly on November 4.

Conception Bay South MHA Barry Petten will continue in his role as Opposition House Leader, in addition to his portfolio as Shadow Minister for Health and Infrastructure. The shuffle allows for the addition of Lela Evans, MHA for Torngat Mountains, to the Official Opposition Shadow Cabinet. Evans will take on the roles of Shadow Minister for Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation, Labrador Affairs, Environment and Climate Change, Labour, and Workplace NL.

"I’m proud to announce and work with a strong and dedicated team ready to challenge Andrew Furey and the Liberals in the next general election," said Wakeham. "Andrew Furey’s Liberals have consistently made decisions that hurt the people of this province, and Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are ready to hold them accountable. Our team will be the alternative with the vision and commitment to deliver the change that people deserve."

Wakeham and the PC Caucus are excited to announce these changes following a productive summer of connecting with communities across Newfoundland and Labrador. In addition to these changes, Wakeham will now take on the role of Shadow Minister for Rural Newfoundland and Labrador.

"Rural Newfoundland and Labrador holds a special place in my heart," added Wakeham. "I’ve heard from many this summer in rural parts of our province who feel forgotten. Our job is to ensure rural parts of our province prosper for years to come, where people can find affordable homes in safe communities. Together, we will continue to push the Liberals to ensure that life is more affordable, healthcare is accessible, no one is left behind, and we are on a better path for growth."
