St. John’s, N.L. (March 4, 2025) – Tony Wakeham, Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party and MHA for Stephenville – Port au Port, has written to the Public Utilities Board (PUB) requesting an investigation into reports of unusually high electricity bills that are causing significant distress for residents.
“Over the past few weeks, many individuals have expressed shock and concern over sharp year-over-year increases in electricity costs, despite no change in their usage,” said Wakeham.
He is calling on the PUB to investigate the cause of these unexpected and costly electricity bills.
“Many people in our province are already struggling with the rising cost of living, and a sudden spike in electricity rates only adds to their financial burden. People are trying to make ends meet, and these unexpected increases are causing even more anxiety and hardship. That’s why I believe it is in the public’s best interest for the PUB to investigate this matter,” he said.
Wakeham reaffirmed his commitment to making life more affordable.
“A Wakeham PC Government would take real action to lower the cost of living, including putting more money in people’s pockets and reducing taxes.”
