Wakeham Releases Statement Following Fish Harvester’s Deal
For Immediate Release
(March 22, 2024, St. John’s, N.L.) – PC Party Leader Tony Wakeham (MHA, Stephenville – Port au Port) released the following statement regarding today’s fish harvester’s deal.
"After weeks of fighting the Furey Liberals, harvesters and crew members finally got a deal.
A deal that should have been done months ago required a full-on crisis to garner any attention from the Furey government.
As the livelihood for many in rural Newfoundland and Labrador, the fishing industry is crucial to our economy. We must ensure that Newfoundland and Labrador plant workers maximize their employment. Our Caucus was there every step of the way with harvesters and their crew members and we will continue to have the backs of plant workers.
We'll also continue to monitor progress. If the Furey Liberals fail to deliver, we'll hold them accountable.
We wish harvesters, crew members, plant workers, and their families the most success and safety in the upcoming fishing season."
