Wakeham to Expand Cellular Coverage For All Of Us
(Carbonear, NL) – Tony Wakeham, Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party, today announced that a PC government will prioritize the expansion of cellular coverage for all of us. The announcement was made alongside PC candidates Riley Balson and Walter Yetman, candidates for Carbonear - Trinity - Bay de Verde and Harbour Grace - Port de Grave.
“Riley and Walter have both been visiting the communities of this region and one thing that keeps coming up is the lack of cellular service,” said Wakeham. “There is an urgent need in rural Newfoundland and Labrador for reliable cell service to support families, businesses, and emergency response.”
Wakeham noted that recent wildfires, including the Kingston Fire, exposed the risks of poor cellular infrastructure, leaving many families unable to stay connected during emergencies.
“It’s 2025, and access to basic cell service is not a privilege,” said Wakeham. “Reliable cell coverage is essential in times of emergency. It is also critical for finding a job, starting a business, staying in touch with loved ones, and accessing healthcare services. Yet far too many communities in our province remain in cell-coverage deserts.”
Wakeham said that his government’s approach to cellular connectivity would be both targeted and strategic, prioritizing communities with the greatest need, leveraging federal investment and proposals from industry to maximize every dollar.
“All of us deserve better cellular service,” Wakeham said. “On October 14, I’m asking Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to vote PC for better healthcare, lower taxes, and safer communities for all of us.”
