St. John’s, N.L. (March 7, 2025)
Tony Wakeham, Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party and MHA for Stephenville – Port au Port, is pleased that the Public Utilities Board (PUB) has acted on his request to investigate the sharp and unexpected rise in electricity bills.
In a letter sent yesterday, the PUB directed Newfoundland Power to provide key responses regarding unaffordable electricity costs. The review includes an examination of the utility’s measures to ensure billing accuracy, prevent billing volatility, improve customer communication, and support customers struggling to pay their bills.
“I am very pleased that the PUB has agreed to investigate these shocking increases in power bills,” said Wakeham. “Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are struggling with the rising cost of living, and I sincerely hope this investigation leads to meaningful solutions that ease the burden on households.”
Wakeham emphasized that he and his caucus have been hearing from thousands of concerned residents.
“While the Liberals continue to ignore the struggles of people in this province, my caucus and I remain focused on lowering the cost of living. Every member of our team has heard from residents deeply worried about how these unexpected electricity bills will impact their household budgets. That’s why we will continue fighting for lower costs and lower taxes for all of us.”
